Producer’s Thoughts
‘92 Wagon was originally conceived as a glimpse into the relationship of two characters that were part of a larger story that I had written. I wanted to create something as a sort of proof of concept for the larger story as well as an examination of the two characters of Em and Chris. Working with Noah M. Dorsey, as the producer of this project, helped me find the talent needed to make this production happen. He connected me with Nikki-Lee Kriszta and Justin Derickson, and after speaking with them, I knew we had found our Em and Chris. The entire team was on the same page regarding story, character, and look (thanks to our wickedly talented Director of Photography, Harrison Mendel) beginning with our first rehearsal to the (very cold) day we finally shot the film. While the team made everything feel seamless, the production wasn’t without its challenges as we filmed during the COVID-19 pandemic and followed the provincial health guidelines to ensure the safety of the cast and crew. ‘92 Wagon was made with a lot of love and respect. A love for filmmaking and storytelling and a respect for one another and their craft. - Tyler Messervy
Director’s Thoughts
’92 Wagon is a beautiful story by Tyler Messervey. With a couple of months of pre-production, we knew it would be a one-day shoot. The plan was softness; no heavy set deck or production design, no wildly out-there camera angles and techniques. The story was in the characters. Casting the right talent to support that vision was crucial. Bringing on Nikki-Lee and Justin with their grounding, raw and natural talent was the perfect fit. Nikki-Lee Kriszta’s talents were showcased and won ‘Best Acting in a Short Film’ at the Okanagan Screen Awards. Being the driving force of bringing this project through the finish line for Tyler is an honour - Noah M. Dorsey
