Documentary Synopsis
In a makeshift gym nestled in Kelowna, B.C., can be heard the sounds of pounding on punching bags. These people have overcome obstacles, social stigma, self-worth hurdles and most importantly; addiction. These three people have one main event to train for, and they are preparing for it like everything is on the line. What’s the prize? To leave their addiction behind them in the ring, to face their fears and self-doubt, and have a chance to win the literal fight of their lives. Watch as Joe, Mike and Kennedy navigate their addiction recovery while simultaneously training for the upcoming fight. Their lives have been far from easy, but these three contenders chose action over intention, and in that choice, they began to form raw relationships and connections within their community. Will they win their match? Can they continue on the path of sobriety? Will this fight ultimately lead to their Comeback?
Producer’s Thoughts
We shot this documentary from April 2019 to June. During that time we got to know Joe, Mike and Kennedy quite well. I heard stories that have changed my life forever, stories that deserve to be shared. Unfortunately, our funding for the project got ripped from under us making it difficult to finish the project at the time. Recently, thanks to the Kelowna Film Society and their generous financial contribution to help with the completion of the project. The documentary is finally finished and has been submitted to film festivals.
